Wren and Judson Turn Five

These two turned five this week!

We celebrated on their actual birthday with a birthday dinner and cake...

Then we had a little get together this weekend to keep the celebration going because you only turn five once. They insisted that I make them each a cake for the party - a unicorn cake and a dinosaur cake, respectively.  They were very specific in how their cakes must be.  I gave it a go, and this is how it turned out.  Not too bad.  (Yes, I made three cakes this week.)

We finished the night with a bang - literally.

It was a great week to turn five!

Pumpkin Pickin'

Last weekend, I took the kids to Berry Patch Farms in Woodstock to pick out some pumpkins.  Little did I know, that pumpkin picking was just one of many activities for them to enjoy.  We played on the playground, pretended to drive a tractor, were to afraid to ride on an actual tractor (Judson), ran and played in an open field under a crisp blue sky, resisted the urge to buy any sweet-smelling cotton candy, picked out the perfect pumpkins, carried said pumpkins (all 50 pounds of them) back to the line to pay and then back to the van (a real-life Farmer's Carry - perhaps pumpkins are the new must-have workout equipment?), and rode on the pony and cart ride.  What a fun trip!

The following Monday, Judson had his catheterization in preparation for his second heart surgery coming up in the spring.  Much to our dislike, we had to go back to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston early on Monday morning for the procedure.  Thankfully, it was a quick and relatively painless procedure, and we were headed back home by the afternoon.  He was pretty much back to normal by that evening.  It was a good experience, which will hopefully calm his fears about the big surgery coming soon.  Here's my big boy preparing to head back for the procedure (with a bag of dinosaurs, of course).

On the way to the hospital on Monday morning, I asked him it he wanted to hear anything special as we drove.  His answer?  Eye of the Tiger.  There's no denying he's our boy.
