Baptism & First Thanksgiving

On November 24, 2013, Caleb was baptized at our church before all of the members.  Infant baptism has been practiced by other Christians since the first century church.  Like circumcision was a sign of the covenant for Israel of the Old Testament, so baptism is for us.  Just as circumcision did not guarantee personal faith for those people in the Old Testament, neither does baptism signify saving faith.  It merely expresses our hope that he will one day profess faith in Christ, and it includes him in the covenant community and all of the blessings that accompany it.

As is the tradition at our church, Pastor Mike gave Caleb a letter to open on his 16th birthday.  We pray that when he opens it, he will already know the Lord and that he will never remember a time when he did not trust in Jesus.  Caleb was a trooper.  He didn't cry once - not even when the water was being poured on his head.  I think as long as he was the center of attention, he was fine.
Just a few days later, we celebrated Caleb's first Thanksgiving.  While Caleb could only partake in sweet potatoes that day, he certainly enjoyed visiting with all of his family.

Caleb has already made it known that he expects turkey and pumpkin pie next year.
